  2. Establish a new world record in long distance swimming

  3. Offer a platform for people to share their stories, inspiring others to follow their dreams

Approximately 5,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean.

Departure Date:
Spring 2012, from Tokyo, Japan.

Estimated Finish:
Fall 2012, in San Francisco, USA.

Plan of Action:
To swim 8 hours per day, in 4 hours segments, 7 days-a-week.

Average Speed:
A little over 2 miles per hour

Type of Swim:
Stage Swim, in this, the person swims the entire distance without the help of any floatation device. The swim is resumed every time where it was previously stopped. Visitors can track Ben’s Pacific swim on the website with the help of GPS tracking and live video cameras.

Previous Experience:
Ben was the first man in history to swim across Atlantic Ocean from Cape Cod Massachusetts, USA to Quiberon, France in the year 1998 without the help of any flotation device.

During the Longest Swim, donations will be collected and later disbursed to various foundations and organizations chosen by members of the Longest Swim Foundation.

What is a Stage Swim?

Ben’s Pacific Swim will be a Stage Swim. In this, he will start his swim everyday where he had previously stopped. With the help of Global Positioning System (G.P.S.), his entire swim will be tracked live on our website.

What is the practice schedule of Ben?

Ben’s training regimen includes eight hours, six-days-a-week swimming and cardiovascular cross-training (including bicycling and calisthenics).

Accreditation and Records:

Ben will swim in stages and follow the process provided by the Guinness World Records organization to be recognized and credited as the longest swim.
